QuickBooks Mobile Onboarding:

Building a native experience for a high-stakes financial signup.

DISCLAIMER

QuickBooks is Intuit's financial platform for businesses—a complex, multi-layered SaaS ecosystem spanning accounting, payroll, and managing money across products, tiers, and legacy systems. My work focused on the 'managing money' domain—helping users with banking, payments, and loans. QuickBooks is primarily web-based with companion mobile apps. (QuickBooks underwent a major UI refresh in November 2025; this case study reflects the prior version.)

SUMMARY

Mobile had no native onboarding. I built the system from a whiteboard sketch—that still held up for more than six years later, across multiple QuickBooks products.

QuickBooks was launching its first banking product, and mobile was a priority surface. But asking someone to type their SSN into a responsive web flow wasn't going to cut it.

In 3 months, I designed a modular native iOS onboarding from scratch—mapping the full framework before rendering a single screen, and protecting details that compliance-driven projects usually sacrifice first.

Impact: 25% higher conversion than web, 60% faster completion, and a modular system that scaled to adjacent flows, future services, and other QuickBooks products. Still ~90% intact after nearly six years.

Full case study coming soon. pinky swear.
